What to plan around.

The National Cherry Festival is held in July, and July–August weekends book first. The festival site is currently advertising July 3–10, 2027. Shoulder months are easier for a bay walk. Sleeping Bear is a separate drive west: about 24 miles, a little over half an hour, to Empire.

  • Front Street and the bayfront

    Shops and restaurants along the bay. Clinch Park Beach is the downtown swim spot, with a splash pad and the municipal marina. Bryant Park and West End Beach are the other city beaches.

  • TART Trail

    The paved trail runs through town and along the bay. Several homes sit near it.

  • Old Mission Peninsula

    The lighthouse at the tip was built in 1870. Chateau Grand Traverse and Chateau Chantal both pour on the peninsula.

  • Downtown dinner

    Amical looks over West Bay. The Cooks’ House is the small fine-dining room. Sleder’s is the tavern on Randolph Street. North Peak is the brewery. Grand Traverse Pie Company is the pie stop.

  • Sleeping Bear day trip

    Empire, Glen Arbor, and the Dune Climb are west on M-72 and M-22. Plan a full day and a park pass.
